23rd Annual Calema Midwinters Windsurfing Festival

The 2008 event is just around the corner!  Dates for 2008 are Feb. 28, 29 March 1-2!  That's right - it's LEAP YEAR!  So registration and skipper's meeting for A Fleet will once again be on THURSDAY evening - Feb. 28th with racing beginning on Friday.  For the Sport & Kid's Fleets - racing will start on Saturday, but everyone is welcome for all the parties that begin on Thursday!!  Mark your calendars - and we'll see you soon.  Online registration will be coming in January!

2008 Florida Windfest

 The 2008 Florida Windfest is scheduled for April 19-20!  The 2007 event was another great one - we had about 40 participants- with Formula, Hybrid and Kona class one-design racing - youth division, too! Winds were terrific on Saturday and a little lighter on Sunday but enough to allow racing throughout the weekend.  We all enjoyed Good food & good fun - the Florida Windfest.

Windsurfers Against Leukemia Full Moon Marathon

Our 2008 event is scheduled a bit earlier in hopes of avoiding the summer afternoon thunderstorms.  The full moon in MAY is on Monday the 20th, so the closest date for our event is MAY 16-17!  The event will start at 4pm on Friday and we'll sail through the night until 4pm on Saturday!!  The rain date will be July 18-19 due to the JO's in June!
Each windsurfer is part of a 4 person team. At least one member of the team must be on the water at all times for the full 24hrs.  Participation is limited - teams must raise a minimum of $600/team ($150/participant). Any interested parties (or teams) contact susie@calema.com
Back in the late 80's Calema held 3 Leukemia Marathons - where sailors sailed through a full moon lit night to raise awareness and funds for the Leukemia Society of America. With our big growth in Juniors in the past few years, they heard about our event and asked for it to be revived. So, in June 2006 - we resurrected the Marathon and raised just under $4000. Our June 2007 event raised a little over $2000 - as we had just a small group of juniors due to the rescheduling of the event!

10th Annual USA Junior Olympic Windsurfing Festival

OUR 10TH ANNUAL JUNIOR OLYMPICS - June 21-22, 2008!
We're looking forward to our 10th event! We will once again host a FREE learn to windsurf session for ages 8-17 from 9:30am-11am on Saturday, June 21st. Space is limited so it is recommended that your register in advance. Online registration will begin in early May 2008 Check in will be at 9am at the shop. We will also have a FREE build a boat contest for any age with building from 10am-2pm. Racing of the mini-boats will be at 3pm down a PVC tube powered only by the wind.  Novice divisions will only race on Saturday - with advanced divisions racing both days.
For those kids that already know how to windsurf - we'll have 3 divisions - novice (just learned this summer - will race on a course close to shore) / intermediate and advanced. Check back for more info closer to the event!

Summer TEEN Windsurfing - French Immersion Program

July 2007 - No group this summer -- stay tuned for 2008!
2005 & 2006 were cancelled but hopefully 2007 will bring another group for a summer stay!! In 2004 - Fourteen families shared hugs and tears as the group departed on July 25th. Many host families agreed that this group was really SUPER. With excursions to Wet & Wild / Wekiva Springs (we saw three alligators just right by our canoes), and Islands of Adventure - the French visiting students returned to France with memories of attractions, natural Florida and most importantly the warmth of their hosting families. If you'd like to be a part of the 2007 program, keep your calendars clear for July 3-30th. Women's Windsurfing Clinics

Our Women's Windsurfing Days are moving forward with the leadership of Christine Mulready.  We now have a group meeting on both Mondays and Saturdays for the months of Sept/Oct./Nov/Dec. - every other week! - a special reduced rental rate for all ladies -- 8 windsurfing days for only $150 (usually $315)!!  Every 1st / 3rd / 5th Monday OR Sat. of the month from 1pm-4pm!  Sign up ONLINE!!
2008 Women's Clinics (also called "Mom's Windsurfing" ARE SCHEDULED - new dates will be on the calendar soon.  But don't forget - if you have a group of at least 4 women - we'll set a date just for your group - with lunch and all - so give us a call and come join our Windsurfing Women!!
Invite your non-windsurfing female friends to come and enjoy the day!   With an all female staff there to teach the basics to women of all ages - 18+, newer lightweight equipment and great weather, many ladies agree there has never been a better time to learn the sport.  Let us blow away the myth of windsurfing being difficult - gear is now lightweight and user-friendly. All you need is a bathing suit and a ready to learn attitude!!  Clinics start at 10am - you'll learn all the basics of windsurfing using a dry-land simulator, buoyed board then freesailing!  The instruction will be followed by a catered lunch!  All for only $100/person.  Any questions, please email susie@calema.com. or call Susie or Chris at 453-3223!
