25Th Calema Midwinters

The 25th Calema Midwinters taking plane March 4th - 7th , 2010 marks a major milestone in our lives and a quarter century of the greatest windsurfing family reunion.
We are actively preparing for this great event and encourage everyone to spread the word and bring a friend.
For starters, the Formula racing and Kona One Design will once again bring sailors from all over the world.
The best news so far is that Starboard will sponsor the event in addition to other sponsors and we will have a fleet of Formula Experience boards and rigs ready for charter.
We know many sailors from Latin America and Europe have been waiting for these news, and we are happy to see Starboard officially involved.
WE are looking for Sponsors that can help with this event so please contact us.

Re: 25Th Calema Midwinters

One week before Midwinters!! already 64 pre-registered ( last year we had 16 pre registered at this time and ended up with 101 competitors)
The weather forecast looks very good. A low pressure system will pass through Florida Tuesday-Wednesday, and a strong High will form behind it , high up in the middle of the USA, with increasing pressure gradient as the weekend progresses. This means cool temps but good winds from the North in the 15- 20 knot range.
Friday will have around 12-15 and Sunday will end up in the 15-20 range.
For those traveling, bring a shorty and a 3/2 convertible, and cold weather jackets.
Cold fronts have been barreling through Florida with abandon so we are having cooler temps. The water is quite acceptable at the moment even a shorty is sufficient, but the air temp is cooler.
I expect the temperatures to be in the high 60's to mid 70's during next weekend ( 17-21 C)
at night temperatures should drop to 45-50 F (7-10 C)
But it will be beautiful and sunny during the day!!

Re: 25Th Calema Midwinters

Wojtek Brzozowski made a surprising appearance today, a full week before the event!! after a 5 year absence from the Calema Midwinters, it was so nice to see a familiar face!

Re: 25Th Calema Midwinters

boy oh boy the forecast is looking better and better!!
Looks like 3 racing days with wind! Saturday will be all time best, Sunday we will have slightly lighter winds but still full planing conditions.
Today we had winds up to 35 knots, I am glad we are getting that out of the way...
Our Techno Juniors closed the clinic sailing in 35+ gusts with a Techno, and they were loving it!! of course they were sailing in 5.6  sails

Re: 25Th Calema Midwinters

Awesome day today, 20-25 knots, many pros out there testing their gear, Gonzalo Costa Hoevel (Arg), Matias Pinheiro (Br), Marcilio Browne (BR),  Micah Buzzianis (USA), Jesper Vesterstrom (Den), Willhem Shurmmann (Br),
Wojtek Broszowski (Pol), among others. Jesper looked fast on his Severne sails. Gonzalo looks like he is pointing well upwind. It is clear this is not going to be a cakewalk for anyone.

Re: 25Th Calema Midwinters

Sunday came and went in a flash, we had just enough wind for 2 Formula races, but were able to run all the other fleets . keep checking the midwinters updates on our website http://calema.com/category/calema-midwinters-updates/ as we will be uploading more pictures, and some cool video footage of the pros going full speed.
This will take a few days, please be patient....

OK just updated the Calema Midwinters page, and we have all galleries there , as well as a video of the pros in the water check it out!!

Re: 25Th Calema Midwinters

We are also very happy to see Alejandro Molinor who took our Junior Techno clinic, placing third in the Under 17 boys, and  doing so, qualified Puerto Rico in the Olympic Games this August. Way to go Alejandro!!
The two countries qualified were Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Margot Sampson qualified the USA for the girls.  No USA boys have yet qualified.  The race in Italy will be the USA's last chance to qualify the boys.
Thanks Dan Weiss for the reminder.
