This article is from of Brian S. who designed and built this handy tool to separate stuck two piece masts.
Photos and text courtesy of Brian S.
The first photo, shows the components for the mast-tip end. I found a piece of rubber hose that slips over the mast tip. The brass part is a garden hose coupling.
The photo below shows it installed on the mast tip.
The next photo shows the components for the mast-base end. The brass part is a garden hose coupling. The large rubber slip coupling is available in home depot in the plumbing section.

The photo below shows the water splitter that I used to run hoses to the top and bottom of the mast.
You need to rotate and gently flex the mast. The water will begin to squirt out the ferrule and flush out the debris. In a few minutes the mast will begin to separate as you continue to flex and rotate the mast - guarantied!

Hey Tinho,
looks like the links to the photos are broken.

always something..... alright it is fixed now

Thanks Brian and Tinho, great tip. The system can be simplified though. In accordance with Bernoulli law the pressure inside the mast is the same so the second hose is unnecessary. Either end of the mast can be just choked with a cap.

Novic,
You're right, except that some masts have plugs or caps on the base section. I did it this way to minimize the chance of sending a plug or cap up or down into the other section. BTW, Bernoulli's principle doesn't apply to fluid statics!
