BROKEN BATTEN TIP
Image 18 : With the sail de-rigged, remove the broken batten slowly. Most of the time the vinyl covering will keep the tip attached. In case it does not, remove the batten completely out of the pocket, and the camber inducer if there is one. Next, with a pair of pliers, squeeze the tip of the webbing so the batten tip slides back.

Image 19 : After you squeezed the first 1cm of the webbing, flip the webbing upwards so that bending of the webbing pushes the tip backward.

Keep squeezing the tip further back, and bending it upwards, progressively moving the tip out of the webbing area. With the sail over a smooth and hard surface, push down on the batten pocket with a piece of wood or plastic, immediately in front of the batten tip. With steady pressure, push the tip along the batten pocket, towards the trailing edge of the pocket. When the batten tip reaches the trailing edge, pull it out with needle nose pliers. Be careful with the fiberglass splinters.
